    Default Rhino (alive)

A beautiful specimen - a large White Rhino bull in a location somewhere between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. 2014 was the worst year yet for the rhino poaching scourge with way over 1000 killed illegally for their horns. What will be their fate in 2015? More of the same unless something changes drastically!!

Super shot, he looks like he has been in the wars a little with those white scars and a puncture mark (?)on his rear leg. I have heard quite a lot about the poaching it looks as though the battle is being lost.

    Hi Morkel,

always good to see a rhino alive. This one has quite a few scares in it's face and back leg. probably a little fighter from time to time.

Somehow you could bring out a bit more details of it's back I assume, just the upper part below down the tummy and face looks very good.
The comp is very nice, would love to see just a tad more room in front. This is up to you of course, it must suit your taste

    Have a great day

    Ciao Anette

Awesome Rhino image with clear surroundings/no distractions and the pose is nice too. Sad to hear about the rampant poaching, hope and pray it comes down this year.

Hi Morkel sad to hear the bad news about this species .
A very nice specimen with impressive horns , image taken from great low POV and on foot , one day i would like to do that , too. Nice clear shot with natural looking colors from the location where i think this was taken . Good detail and tone .I like the Giraffe peaking above the bush line !!

A nice one all around .

    TFS Andreas

    Hi Morkel

Really nice one. Agree with comments above.

You SA bought some JAS Gripen fighter aircrafts from us swedes. Why donīt you deploy them. They are excellent for surveillance (there is also drones and satellite images to the system) and bringing down fire on those poachers. (Here I would like to insert an angry smily with big horns).

Hi Morkel. Great pic of a tough looking rhino. I like the way you've framed this, keeping a fairly tight crop but still showing a bit of his habitat. Personally, don't think you need more in front of him. Last year was terrible so I consider myself quite lucky that I managed to see so many of these over my travels of the last 2 months - hope this can continue.

Nice shot of a magnificent guy who must have been in a fierce territorial battle, Morkel!

My heart just cringe every time I read the illegal killing stats/news on these magnificent animals. The killings graph is still in an upwards curve - let's hope 2015 is going to experience a slow-down!

Hi Morkel - He looks like a fighter so hopefully he can survive the poachers. The numbers are horrendous, Great low pov. Being on foot in their presence is an awesome experience. I didn't notice the giraffe until I read Andreas's comment.

    Rachel

Thanks folks - each moment spent with this species is precious these days, and being on foot was a cherished experience.
