Default Out of the Box and Into the Box

    Greetings. Another flip...

Flipped top to bottom in place multiply blend, then flipped side by side. Nik Silver Efex to adjust luminosity, Luminosity blend back hues, then Topaz adjust for tone, saturation.

Looking at this a while later I couldn't quite make sense of it. Had to go back to the original to see that one of the buildings (er, 4 of them) is actually a reflection off another placed just so. ;-)

    Thanks for looking.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Really cool Michael as an abstract and love the retro look to the colours. I find it very engaging with my eye going over the entire frame.

So this is a double reflection? That is, from side to side and from top to bottom? Very cool! I love the symmetrical repetition of angles, shapes and colors. Very creative!

I agree with Jackie about the colors. The flip is probably one of the best I've seen, but the colors are really special. The subtle background works very well, too.

    Jackie, Wendy, Dennis,

Thanks much for your comments. They are much appreciated. Wendy, the first flip is in place, that is flipped top to bottom but on top of the original, then blended together with multiply blend and adjusted for tone. The second side to side flip is a copy to extended canvas.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

When I read about the Multiply blend mode in your initial explanation, I wasn't quite sure what you'd done. After reading this one and looking for a difference in tones in the top and bottom, I'm not sure I see any. Is the top of the image multiplied over itself and the bottom not?

    Dennis,

What I mean by in place is:

Duplicate layer, Top layer flip vertical multiply blend (in other words one layer on top of the other, not flipped on to extra canvas)

This would be very dark except for all that blue sky. Here is the original (starting in the lower right)...

    Hope this makes sense.

Ha! I did something else oops...It appears that before I flipped it in place I copied the left tower and placed it on the right with a multiply blend.

    Sorry for the confusion.

    Cheers,

Ah, thank you. For the explanation about the first flip not being on extra canvas. And for mentioning the copying of the blue building. I was a bit puzzled by it. I really like your idea about the layer flip. It worked out great.

Well done! Love all the vertical lines, especially the blue columns that flank the sides and becomes double in the middle with diagonal lines like arrows pointing up and down from the center! Also those two "floating" buildings hanging in the sky really catch my eye. So cool and I think I understand your approach .

A fascinating image. Like others, I find the colors just right. Excellent flipping work, which I'm not even going to try to understand. Excellent results. I rotated it 90 degrees and find that it works that way also, but is not as dynamic. Excellent creative work, and title.

Love the creative use of flips and reflections. Nice job!
