The light on the Ele is gorgeous Douglas. I like the comp and the silhouette of the little one in the BG.
Hi Douglas very nice light on the elephant who is drinking. I like the overall comp , only the cut off ellie on RHS is not ideal.
IQ has suffered from whatsoever ? Very noisy looking or sharpening clashing with high contrast and you have some fancy coloration going on in BG and shadows . Any idea where this is coming from ?
TFS Andreas
The key lighting on the elephant is really exquisite, Doug, and offset against the darker banks of "Elephant Bay" it works a treat!
I have done most of my Chobe trips in summer months and hence have had mostly overcast/gloomy sunsets as the storms roll over the Chobe floodplains. This year I am going in May and I look forward to some "golden hour sunsets". I do agree with Andreas that you pushed contrast perhaps a bit, as the grass around the big guy's feet looks scrunchy and the coloration in the shadows can be tamed a bit - not sure what introduced it and if it's there in the RAW?
Hi Douglas, it really looks great. I as well agree with the noise in the BG. Wonder from where that comes from with ISO 400!
The cut off elephant I might would clean up, but that depends on you of course and taste!
I like this very much, well done
Have a great eve

Thanks all for the helpful suggestions. I think I'll clone out the "half" elephant on the RS.
As to the coments about contrast, I've attached a clip from the ACR settings. Also, contrast was set at Medium in Tone Curve. Camera Profile was set at Neutral. White balance As Shot was 5600, +13. I toned down the magenta because I thought it looked a little too warm. I'll welcome any suggestions for improvement.

Hi Douglas
This is a stunning picture that stands out, but I also do agree with the comment on itīs flaws in IQ. Also around the elephant it is a black line. To much sharpness?

Hi Douglas - I also like the key lighting on the ele and the way it is juxtaposed with the silhouetted ele in the bg. I agree with the comments about contrast and noise. The noise can easily be caused by your raising exposure in pp especially with the 7D. The IQ from that camera really suffers if the exposure isn't nailed in camera. Definitely better to expose to the right in the field. Also I rarely add contrast in ACR these days and often drop it to about -10. I also think that your bringing the detail slider in sharpening to 100 is what causes your images to sometimes look crunchy in areas like the grass by the ele's feet. Just my thoughts on some things to experiment with in your workflow.
TFS,
Rachel
Thanks, Rachel et. al.,
I just finished a 12x18 canvas (on BC Crystiline) of this image. I cloned out the young ellie on the right side, adjusted the sharpening in ACR and reduced the contrast a little. It made a very nice image. Much thanks to the suggestions offered here.

The spot light on the subjects makes the image here. Love that light. Repost is better!
One of the best images I have seen. Reposts corrects many issues others outline. Wonderful work.
