Life is a fight
Let me tell you the story about a bird.
Life is hard for a Razorbill, nature does not make gifts, survival is a fight, and that's not counting the many pitfalls strained by men : pollution, intensive fishing and global warming are all tests to be overcome to ensure his own survival.
But with courage and tenacity our well-battered fighter, came back every year on these cliffs to give life and to ensure the durability of its specie whatever it cost.
An unusual portrait of a bird, a bit dirty and marked by nature, but so beautiful in my eyes !

Nikon D600, AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II, Teleconverter TC-20E III
400mm @ f8 - 1/1600s - ISO 3200
Natural ligh, handheld.
Comments always appreciated...

Very nice narrative to go with this image.
I like the black and white conversion and your composition with the bill squarely in the URC (rule of thirds).
My main issue with this shot is that the DOF was not great enough to render the entire bill in focus.
I would have traded SS for DOF in this case and made sure the active focus point was squarely on the bill.
I think you can get far more details in the blacks in PP with photoshop or Nik Efex Pro Detail Extractor but it may also be a DOF issue for the feathers on the back.
I would clone out the white spots on the back as well.
Look forward to more from you,
Gail

I am okay with the bill out of focus b/c the eyes are in focus. I think B&W works well but I would have liked to see this in a vertical format if possible b/c I feel as though the body of the bird is pulling my eyes away from it's head.
