    Default Preening at Sunset

Common Merganser hen, from my local lake a few nights ago. I loved the light, but the birds wouldn't come very close, so this is more of a crop than I would have liked.

Lovely shot Bill. Been trying these on our local river but can't get near. Local fishermen trying to get them culled!! They shot at them with catapults accusing them of "depleting fish stocks"

I must try a bit harder. Would be pleased with this one.
    Cheers

Crop seems to have help up well. A nice intimate image with pretty light on the bird. I like the smooth, dark, painterly background. (And I seem to also like adjectives this morning )

Thanks John. I'd be tempted to suggest that the ducks bombard the fisherman for depleting the fish stocks, but that might upset my fishermen friends, so I'll hold my tongue.

Hi Bill, love the light in this, especially cast on the head of the Merganser. Good look back pose, and I do like the colour of the water. Maybe a bit off the bottom.

Nice spotlit effect and behavior shown.
Before I read your commentary my thought was for a bit tighter crop but now I know you can't.
Still a very nice image and lots to like,

The IQ looks fine to me...
Maybe my favorite duck and the only one I cannot get very close to where I live.
Love the light and the pose....

I like the light in this also. Nice pose and details considering the crop. I can't even get a frame of these guys around here. Not many around and when we do see one they are real spooky. Nice work Bill
