Hi folks new month , new theme .
So i will start with this image of this old unit from the Kalahari , i found him one morning close to Polentswa where we camped . I saw him just because WB looked all into one direction and where making their funny alarm call , so i stopped the car and waited . At first i could not see him but then he came down into the road just some meters in front of me , not ideal seeing him through the windscreen and no chance to turn the car for shooting out of the window . So i reversed some hundred meters and waited for him , at one stage he passed me , well roughly 2 meters away from the passenger window . He did not even look at me , at that time .

Thanks for looking and commenting to my previous thread .

Hi Andreas, very nice vertical comp with nice eye contact. I like the color tones and the details. He looks like a seasoned warrior!

Indeed, eye contact is superb Andreas - very nice capture! I have never seen this old chap before - he looks rather old and quite tattered, judging by the shape of his mouth, battle scars and condition of his mane. I like the crop and presentation, sharpness, as well as tonality - all spot on. This sighting occurred early morning and I love the way the sun lights up his mane and part of his face ( LHS )- he gave you quite a look there...just for interest' sake, I would like to know, was he in fairly good condition? I notice few spots of blood on his whiskers, looks like he had something to eat the night before:)

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Andreas - Thanks for starting off the theme. Nice look at this old warrior. He certainly is a bit battle scarred. Excellent detail and eye contact. The comp works well. Nice one.

    Hi Andreas,

love the look he gives you, the "I have seen all" *humans*
Very nice details, but not quite there as you do it usual! The light is very nice on his head, all fits for me in this one.

    Have a great day

    Ciao Anette

I really like the detail and it is a very clean shot, I know you shoot to the right, in this case can you remember if you had a few blinkies on the camera LCD - just curious how far to the right because it is so clean.

Hi all thanks so much for your comments , much appreciated .
Jonathan - honestly i cannot tell you if there have been blinkies , but i bet there have been some because when opened in DPP was borderline in the HL . By taken roughly 15.000 frames in a 4 week period i simply cannot say for a single frame. BTW no luminance NR at any stage in the process just chrominance NR at low values .
Gabriela - he did look quite well for being that old , not too skinny, but not as fat as Rachelīs Kruger lion .

Anette - i am puzzled regarding detail .

Thanks again to all of you , cheers Andreas

The eye contact and embattled look is great. I did wish for a bit mor room on the left side of the image.

Anette sometimes the doctor does not want to use the full arsenal of tools or just think it is enough there .......... the details . In this case i think it just enough , or i need new glasses , in fact i am already close to the point for new glasses.

Have a great evening yourself .

Thanks Douglas , for me there is no need of more room on RHS , but i have it

Thank you Andreas, appreciate the info regarding this male lion. Andre believes we have some images of this same character from February last year at the same location, but cannot be sure it is him - I found mostly profile shots of that male, some taken at some distance and I cannot count the spots:)

We will think of you when camping at Polentswa

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

This old boy has got a few tales to tell, that's for sure.
As good a composition/framing as one could muster shooting vertically straight onto a lion, Andreas!
Clarity, contrast, tone all look good to me.

Gabriela a pleasure to make you happy , yes i hope you think about me when you and Andre are camping at Polentswa , i for myself loved to stay there !!! You know where to park the car to get the WB jumping right in your face , and do not forget the grey socks for the ultimate white balance .And maybe you get this old chap seeing again .

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas, I like the side lighting on this, interesting. Nice detail and I like the head on stare, bit of a wonky mouth though .

Thanks Steve for your comment , i could work on the mouth cause i am following some tutorials of beauty retouching from time to time to see if i can grab some techniques for my PP techniques , but i will stay away from that for my wildlife images .
    Cheers Andreas
