I love this. There is a quality of Zen about the simplicity and the way the eye is repeatedly brought back to the bird's eye. The bird is just off center to keep the composition dynamic. Simple and beautiful.
Hi Grace
Simple, beautiful composition with lovely pastel BG and a subtle reflection. But here is a dumb question from a warmer climate resident... Is the bird frozen into the lake? I think not. I don't believe even dumb birds are that dumb. So how is that bird sitting on the ice? Is it really thin and can break out easily..? Is it dangling it legs in a hole??

Grace I really like the pure simplicity of this shot, did wonder about all the space around the bird but the more I look the more I like, Goose itself looks very good.
Keith.
I love everything about this shot, peaceful, interesting pose and great light on the feathers. Different take on a subject very common in my area
Simplicity seems to be the thread here, and I agree. Lovely comp, and as Mike says, nice to get a different look at such a ubiquitous bird.
Looks like a Scalzo original to me. Love the mood in this frame Grace. Hope you are staying warm out there. See ya soon.

A beauty! Love the composition and the simplicity and calm feel of the image.
As a birder and one who lives in a moderately cold climate, I couldn't resist an answer. The bird (a Canada Goose I believe) is sitting on the thick ice, no hole. Its thick downy plumage is insulating it from the cold. Love the shot.
beautiful image Grace
Elegant and artistic. Nice pose and bird placement. Love the shadow the bird is casting on the ice. Great techs. Nitpicking here, but I'd get rid of the sharpening halo around the head/neck.
Thanks to everyone for your comments...Sid you have great eyes! (I missed that totally). As for the bird, he (or she) was fine, just taking a snooze on the ice. By the time I circled back to the pond after taking this image, he was gone.
