Great capture, John. Would love to see this display taking place. Don't mind the green algae at all. Snipe is nice and sharp and if this were mine I might brighten up the eye catch light a tad.

Agree that the algae might not make this a wall-hanger but it's such a great pose that I'd be happy to have this one in my files. Nice suggestion on the eye.

Pose and details look great and I like the eye work on the RP but I too agree that the algae pond isn't overly appealing. Put him back at one of your sweet ponds

David- I think he'd be a bit big for my little puddles!!.( can't find them at the moment everywhere covered in water.

Lovely species to photograph and what a nice pose. On the catchlight improvement, I'd setting somewhere between the OP and the RP. This is one shot where I would have dropped to the floor (if possible), insipid algal muck notwithstanding, and would have tried for an eye level shot with a smooth bg (although I know that's not your thing)

Thanks- not that its not my thing but once the hide is set up and covered with vegetation its very difficult to alter it after the birds have taken age to get used to it!
It was after all set up for other things.
    Cheers
