    Default Ele Portrait

Taken at Londolozi in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, South Africa in early June 2014. This is ff and I purposely went tight in camera in the field but I wanted to include both tusks and the eyelashes on the right. The elephant was at a waterhole and some of the light is reflected off the water.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

Hi Rachel quite difficult to get a decent tight portrait with a slight head turn / side profile . You did somehow well , but i do think it is bit tight on RHS . I do like the colors / clarity and sharpness. For me the overall image is a bit dull in the tones and a bit dark from luminosity POV , i would open up the brightness and add some mid tone punch , just my thoughts .
You achieved very nice detail in the HL and shadows .

Nice framing Rachel. I often tend to not go for these in the field and they can come out so nicely (in the field that cutting off of the trunk keeps bugging me haha).
I agree with Andreas on shifting the framing more to the RHS in hindsight.

Rachel, you have portrayed great detail and textures in this image. Particularly the skin and tusks. I like the long eye lashes & over all comp though I agree a slight more room wouldn't be bad either. TFS. Sanjeev

Amazing IQ and texture. It looks like I can touch and feel the Elephant. Good colour as well as a pleasing portrait.

Thanks Gentlemen. I too would like just a sliver more room by the tusk.

    Hello Rachel!

I must say those long lashes of the ellie are just awesome...I am not going to complain about the comp, I actually like it as is:) Love an ellie filling the frame and this is all about textures and detail on those tusks and trunk, I think the colours are true to nature (love the bit of green on the end of the trunk, must be algae from the water he was drinking) and glad you got both tusks in, not an easy "task"! Been working on an similar ellie image the other day, will post when ready and would love your opinion

Warmest regards, hope you have a lovely week-end

Hi Rachel, I like what seems to be the shimmering water reflected in the chest, I know it's not dappled light . An inquisitive, gentle old unit, very obliging too. You don't say if it's FF so agree with Andreas's comment, a hint more on the right would help.

    Trust you are enjoying Yellowstone.

Thanks Gabriela and Steve. Steve - this is ff. I agree a touch more on the right but don't have it.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel
