In California we have a high ranch/meadow area that holds lots of wintering raptors some years ( saw 8 species and over 60 birds one day), Sierra Valley. This is one of flight shots I am happiest with, however I do not have the skills yet to selectively lighten the dark side of its face...some day. comments welcome

Willie, you are fortunate to have an area with good habitat for raptors. This is a beautiful bird -Great flight pose and down the barrel stare. I might select the darker side of the face, and then use levels-moving the middle slider to the left to lighten the mid-tones. I'm still learning too though. Let's see what others say.

Since the hawk is looking right at you, one of the things you could do is copy the properly exposed side, flip it, and transform it to fit
    over the dark side.

That's a fantastic shot! I went ahead and selected the other area after blowing it way up and doing a selective level to the area of the eye. What a fantastic catch!Name: ferr.jpg

Very nice! What a treat to be able to get this close! I'm absolutely loving the 7D2 and 100-400 II combo. Having a reasonably long telephoto with zoom is wonderful.

Nice fix by Warren. Check out the Educational Resources forum for my tutorial on using Quick Mask mode for selecting and then making adjustments to the selected area.

I like it, especially nice add with the curled wing tips.
