    Default Eos 1 d mk III & Eos 40 D

    Hi all,
I would like to ask about the difference of the speed of autofocus,
between eos 1 D MARK III or eos 1 Ds MARK III with 40 D
The difference in the money is big,is the same difference and in the speed?

    Thanks

The 1D Mark III focuses faster than the 40D (I own both). It also autofocuses at f/8, meaning that you can use a doubler on a 500 or 600 f/4 and still get AF.

    Manos,

Agree with Doug the 40 D AF is good but its not at the same level as the 1D/1DS in terms of speed or features. The 1D/1DS with even AF with stacked,
    1.4X + 2X extenders.

I am taking the liberty of taking this discission a little further. I am also a 40D user & would like to upgrade to a 1 series body mainly for f8 autofocus support with extenders. My dilemma is whether to go for 1D or 1Ds?

Is the extra resolution worth giving up the reach specially when bird photography is the main application? Any other advantages of 1Ds over 1D?

Would appreciate some inputs on this.

    Deepak
