    Default Lurking in the shadows

    Attached Images Attached Images

A male leopard hides in the shadows, unfortunatley for him he has already been spotted.

    Sth Luangwa Nat Park- Zambia.

    D4s 500 f/4 VR 1/800s F/6.3 ISO400 -0.33EV. Bean bag from front pax seat, ACR PSCC.
The extreme range of lighting here made for judicial use of the S/H tool.
Cropped from LHS for comp, granting me a slightly less central impala, moving the vehicle wasn't an option as this was a tense "stand off" situation, moments later this ram bounded away.

    C & C always welcome.

    Cheers
    Marc

A lovely scene Marc. The intent gaze of the leopard in the shadows makes this image and tells a story.

Hi Marc - I think this works well. You did a nice job with the varying light. Great intensity in the leopard's stare and posture.

    Rachel

Hi Marc, Great shot..... Love the look in the spotty's eyes, but it looked pretty relaxed, as the left back foot was still in the resting position.......Always great to bag a quick few "anchor" shots before the action starts....

We have a trip to South Luangwa planned for the whole of September...Awesome place.. Hopefully we too will have great viewing such as this.

Very cool image... I don't believe any changes are required.

Interesting image Marc. It is so different I'm not sure if it works or not. Im kinda on the fence
You have handled the shadows and bright light so well. To have the detail in the Leopard and the brightness of the sunny areas well exposed you have done a great job...
I will keep coming back and revoking and adding my thoughts...I don't usually like to read the others comments before I post my own thoughts as I don't want to be swayed.

Great story-telling image, Marc, and exceptional exposure balance and dynamic range control.
I might tweak the midtone contrast ever so slightly as an after-thought.

Hi Marc, Still deliberating on the routing as I don't like Beit Bridge...Probably via PlumTree in Bots then The Kazangula Ferry and up through Zambia to "Wildlife Camp" for six days then onto "Zikomo" for six days....We will be camping with our Afrispoor - Rhino trailer... No lodges..

Not sure if you have heard the "Wonky Tusk" the matriarch which used to walk through the lodge at Mfuwe died, but the tradition stioll carries on from what I can gather...

Looking at shooting across to Malawi for a few days and then home via Mozambique / Vilancoulos providing the locals have stopped shooting one another by then!!!...

    Regards

Hi Marc very nice story to show . Well positioned subjects , and tone/ color does look ok . I might think to get a bit more punch to the mid tone would not hurt .

    Hello Marc!

Love the story here, and such an interesting behavioural shot. Should have shot this at...say...F/44 ? Just kidding - I really like what you captured here, a very special moment.

Peter sums it up well, I too love the element of surprise you brought with this image - enjoyed viewing, hoping for more when you get back!

    Kind regards,

Great shot from a perfect angle Marc! Lots of possibilities but you've made the most of what you've had. Pity the Impala did not walk closer to the cat - you would have been in for a lot of fun!
