With all the talk about the new Canon 100-400, here is my Nikon Version.
I am taking an Iceland trip this summer and this will be my Bird and Wildlife lens.
Taken this morning to see how it will work.

    Nikon D610,

Love the pose of the duck, always nice to capture a wing flap. The sharpness looks good. It just a bit unlucky that the bird is facing away from the frame.

    Raybel,
The Wigeon is looking at me...
I try to get this view of the wing flap, not easy since most of the views they are looking away.
This is the only view where you see the full back span.
The HA is acceptable for me since I have eye contact. I get a ton of side on or front wing flaps.
Not as good in my opinion.........

Great look at the wings and the beautiful feather s of this handsome drake Dan. Enough eye contact and HA to make it look good and the green BG looks nice with the green in the head and the scapulars. Well done

I like this unusual view. Good detail in the head and a nice view of the different colors in the wings.
