    Default Lens question

I am looking at adding another lens to my kit and I need some advice. I currently have the 7D2 camera, 24-105 L, Sigma 70-200 f2.8, Tamron SP70-300, and Sigma 17-70. The 24-105 is great, the 2 Sigma lens do a really good job and the Tamron does ok but it is slow on autofocus.
I am looking for something for birds and this is my thoughts: I know every one is raving about the new 100-400 but to get that I will have to wait awhile. My other options are to buy a used 100-400 v1 as there are a lot of those advertised for around $1000, buy the Tamron 150-600 which is also around $1000. I know the version 1 is not as good as the version 2 but is it that much worst as I have seen some really good images from the V1 and the 7D.
The cost of the version 2 will be at the top of my price range and it will probably be six to nine months before I can get it.
Also, how would the V1 work with a 1.4 TC and which version.
All advice will be appreciated and thanks in advance.

I'd suggest the Tamron 150-600mm as a great starter for birds. Several of my buddies around here us it with Canon and Nikon with good results. Ultimately, one of the big Canon primes is what you'll want, but you need to start somewhere and I think the 150-600mm is "it" these days.

Thanks for the reply. The Tamron was at the top of my list but then Sigma came out with the Sports 150-600 so I was waiting to see some reviews on it but it is about twice the price of the Tamron. Now with the new Canon 100-400 L v2 a lot of v1 are on the used market for around $1000 so now I am sort of on fence so that is why I am seeking advice.

    Hi David

All I can suggest is buy the best you can afford. I started of with the tamron 300mm, then the Sigma 500mm, they were good at the time as it was all new to me and I thought my images were good. But, I soon discovered that you only get what you pay for and I bought a Canon f/2.8 300mm then a f/4 500mm, and I havn't looked back since. And, I wished I had bought Canon first. Both pre owned lenses, but, what a difference.

Another lens to consider is the Canon 400/5.6L. Even after buying my 500/4, I still use my 400/5.6 with my 7D2 when I don't want to lug around the 500.

I have a Canon 100-400 that's in great shape that I was just about to put on the market. Also a 500v1. I will give you a killer deal on either one. PM anytime if you are interested

    Hello David,
I m self use the canon 7D and canon 100-400 V1 lens which was used one.
    This combo is very good.
100-400 V1, will auto focus only on center point using 7d mk II when used with 1.4 TC.
