    Default Pronking

I spent last week in the Karoo travelling through 3 different national parks. Photographically, I had one goal - to capture a pronking springbok. This proved to be a lot harder than I thought (hard to tell which member/s of a herd is about to pronk and they are really quick) but I was really happy that my only sharp keeper turned out like this. C&C most welcome.

    Canon 5d Mkiii
    EF 100-400 Mkii
    1/1000 @ F5.6
    iso 800
Almost full frame - small crop, straightened horizon and minor LR adjustments.

Hi Charles a very cool image with a a even cooler pronking pose .
Unbeatable low POV for a pronking shot of the Bokkie. I like the sky , the FG and the overall colors . Tones do look nice but i think the 3/4 tones are a bit too dark . The sharpening could be a tad stronger from POV .
Only angle of shooting is not that good , meaning the Bokkie is showing more his butt than his side profile and /or face .

As illustration an RP with opened 3/4 tones and more sharpening on the subject , WDYT ?

Hi Andreas. Thanks for your comments. I like your repost. Would you mind being more specific in terms of what you did?

No Charles not at all , selected the 3/4 tones with TK lumo mask ,set the levels layer to screen blend mode , painted the effect away from FG .
Selected the bokkie and sharpened it with smart sharpen in PS CC with a setting of 250/ 0,3 / 2%, duplicate the sharpened layer . set blend mode of the first to lighter color , of the copy set blend mode to darker color . reduce opacity to 40 / 80 of the layers . Group them and set overall opacity to 66 % .

    HI CHarles,

very nice image of this Jumper. Very well done and not easy indeed. I agree with Andreas on the behind side. To bad that you could not get it more from the side.

    have a nice eve

Wow Charles, your patience was rewarded; Perhaps a better/different POV but it I think it is a super duper shot...I didn't know that was what they called it!

I think the repost is better. well done!

    Kind regards, Charleen

    Hey Charles
Gorgeous low angle and pronking pose here, offset against lovely pastel colours.
I am actually fine with the positioning of the animal and the fact that the eye is just-just showing counts heaps. Was this in Karoo NP or Mountain Zebra NP or Camdeboo NP?
    Nice RP by Andreas

Hi Charles - your perseverance paid off. Love the bok against the pastel sky and your low pov. Andreas has taken it up a notch with his rp. While the angle of the bok is not ideal, I like the placement in the frame. Capturing the bok at a better angle to camera gives you something to continue to strive for and a reason to go out shooting again.

    TFS,
    Rachel

    Hello Charles,

This is one awesome capture and the framing is great - I really like the composition and especially the subject, kind of "jumping into the frame".

Andreas's RP does take it up a notch. I love your bokkie pronking, there's something playful and mischievous about him...I too feel your OP needed a tad more sharpening on the subject. Just thinking...perhaps time for you to invest in Photoshop? No need to give up LR, just more options:)

Definitely an eye catcher and I thoroughly enjoyed viewing, looking forward to more images from you Should you decide to explore Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Game Reserve (lots of lion and wild dog sightings lately) do pop in at the Pharmacy in Hluhluwe and say hi to us (Gabriela and Andre)

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
