I am beginning to enjoy my 7D Mk2 now. At first, I was a wee bit disappointed with the camera when I first bought it, especially in low light situations, but, I am a lot more happier and satisfied with the results it is now giving me . I am sure the more I use it, the better the results will be.

Thanks for all your comments on my last post, they are much appreciated, and thanks for having a look at this one .

    Very nice image.
Nice soft light and good IQ.
I think it needs a smidge of CW rotation and a touch more contrast.
Do you have a bit more room on the LHS for the tail?

Nice image, Gail suggestion are a good one. I would have aslo added a bit more vibrance or saturation to add a bit more punch to the image.

Lovely shot, I would be inclined to sharpen all of the bird a little more.

the repost isn't great, the details look a bit coarse and noisy.

My guess is the RAW was soft here. can you post a 100% crop?

I think I overdone the contrast and the sharpness on the repost after reading the previous comments

Infact if I just sharpened the head more, as you suggested, I think the image would be better

that's not a 100% crop. it's hard to tell anything from that. sometime I have to sit down and write a short sticky about how to save a 100% crop. (it just means a crop of the RAW at 1:1 view)

If the RAW is not sharp enough no amount of sharpening will help it

    Hi William,

I'm afraid there is not much you can do. The RAW is totally out of focus and extremely noisy. I would delete this one and try again

In order to produce an acceptable output, you need to have an acceptable RAW to begin with

I have friends with the same issues. Looks ok on the LCD but when you really pixel peep, allot of the frames are just not really sharp. They should be sharper than this with a duck just floating by.

Hi David thanks for that. I took other photographs the heron, on the same day, at a faster shutter speed than the eider image, and I also used my 5D Mkiii with the f/4 500mm and 1x4iii.

I would like you to have a look at them please, and see if you can tell, if its me, or maybe the 7D Mkii, as I know there has been focus issues with this camera.

    This would be appreciated.

The Mallard is the 7DMk2 at a shutter speed of 1600 and the Heron is the 5D Mk3 at a shutter speed of 1600

    Thanks in advance

    William,

none of these two are anything close to sharp, I hate to say this but they (especially second one) look really poor as if they were taken with a smart phone instead of advanced Canon gear. I don't think this is coming from your gear or focus issue. To me, they are big operator errors. The heron shot looks like it has been blown up beyond 100% (?) The duck shot is just soft and noisy.

Did you use a tripod or hand hold your lens? where was the focus point in these shots? what was the time of day ?

I will post a 100% crop of a sharp file later so you can see what it should look like.

    Hi William,

Sorry to say but Arash is right, at least in the fact that the frames are not sharp, especially the second one. It is far from sharp and looks like something went wrong in camera. Movement or conditions in the air?? Not sure but it is very soft and I am hoping that you can see that fact. I am posting a shot I took a few days ago in less than desirable conditions so that it isn't sugar coated so you can see what I see when I view a file. I am posting the original and a pretty big crop of more than 200%. If you are shooting a static or near static subject, and you are not moving like crazy, then your shots should come out fairly sharp, consistently. Also this is shot at 1/1600th which is pretty slow by my standards because I usually have plenty of light.
Also this is shot hand held on a bean bag out of my truck.
Hope this helps or at least shows you what others are seeing. I'm sure Arash will post a frame and give you an example of what he sees also.

Thanks for that David, I have shot sharp images in the past, as you have seen from previous postings. I think the cropped examples I posted on this thread, have been totally operator error as Arash stated. Last night I set both my cameras up for BBF, never used that before, I will see if that makes any difference.

Thanks for your time, it is much appreciated

Here is an example with a 100% crop

    http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...-with-100-crop

Now the 7D2 will have a hard time delivering this kind of quality, it will be softer and noisier at high ISO but still should be much much better than what you posted here in pane 14.
