Hi Nancy - I think this is one of your best wildlife images. The fox really pops from the bg. Btw I absolutely love the snowy bg and the way you captured the fox on the ledge with the fall off behind it. The colors look great. As for the tones, I think you could still extract more detail from the darkest blacks (the paws and ear tip) and also from the brightest whites (the snow in the fg). Also, a minor point, I would sharpen the nose just a little bit more. All this said, it certainly looks like you're on the right track for pp.

Hi Nancy,
the fox looks great and agree with popping up with Rachel from the snow. Also when you have found the TK actions, it is very easy to get the dark areas, also mentioned by Rachel a bit detail out. Go play with TK, I am sure you find the right buttons for that too. TK is such a time saver I as well love it very much.
I might would brighten the eye a tad more as well. When you cropped the image, give the fox a tad more room to walk into, but this is just me. I love when the animals can breath
Have a great day

Hi Nancy well a nice fox image in a nice setting . I like the detail and color in the fox you processed , not that crunchy as the last posting keep on going this route .The overall contrast is wee bit heavy for my liking ending up in shadows and HL with detail loss . I think it is there you just need to keep an eye on the areas during your PP workflow.
I agree with Anette , if you have a bit more room for the fox in front of him would not hurt .
A image well worth to invest a bit more ...... i am glad you like the TK action pack and the use of luminosity masks , try to learn the good tutorials and you will have it easier with targeted tonal adjustments . My pleasure to help you with my suggestion .
.
Cheers and TFS Andreas

Everyone, thank you very much for looking and your thoughtful comments and advice. The comments are so helpful in giving me direction to further my processing skills, as well as open my eyes to see more.

Hi Nancy, very nice image, can't agree more with what has been said. Personally I feel the fox is a little big in the frame and more room all around wouldn't hurt. Pardon me for my ignorance, is TK action pack an add on to pS that you can purchase somewhere? TFS. Loi

What a lovely fox! I like the different textures in the snow. I don't know too much about editing software so cannot comment too much on that aspect of your shot. I think your shot is quite natural looking

Absolutely stunning composition, processing, lighting, detail and a beautiful creature. Everything about this image I love.

Hi Nancy, I think from a PP aspect this is one of your best, and as Andreas mentioned, it has not suffered from the 'crunchy' aspect which previous images have.
I like the setting, side profile, raised front paw and trailing snow from it. Learn to move the focus point within the frame so that head is sharp, pre planning and anticipation is key to this. Hopefully you will get those shots where you just have the fox in a completely white environment which IMHO just elevates that fantastic red coat and gorgeous portraits. You have retained a lot more detail in the FG snow which again you can extract from the RAW where the OP does not show. Getting out there with the camera, coupled with exploring what you have learnt and currently reading will really start to show dividends. Remember to think about those settings within the various Cases which you can manually adjust, they are there to help you. Keep it up.

You received some great feedback already, Nancy, but allow me to also say that this is by far the best image compositionally, quality-wise and evocatively that you have posted on BPN Wildlife to date.
Congrats, wish it was mine

Thank you again everyone for your thoughtful and helpful comments! Loi, TK stand for Tony Kuyper and his action pack. You can Google his name and can purchase the action pack there. It creates various versions of luminosity masks as actions and can be added to PS, that makes it easy to incorporate into your workflow. Saves lots of time. This is a crop and I can add back surrounding space.
