twosome elephants in Etosha, my first visit a long time ago, not last year. The whities as I call them. I saw the HK theme, not sure if I did this right for that, but had quite some fun doing this.
LR usual stuff, in PS I converted the white elis into B&W, yep was needed added midtowns, level, cropped about 10-15% to get BG out, sharpened in PS, that was it.
MKIII
70-200mm the old one
f/7.1, yes I know should have the other eli sharp too, now I know
ISO to embarrassed for that awkward number to write down
1/2000 and I had the time of the world to get this image!!!! Now I know better
This has an interesting abstractness to it that I like. Good repeating vertical lines of the legs and sides of the heads, as well as the horizontal repeating lines on the skin of the trunks. I like that the bodies melt together and it is not easy, nor important, to see what part belongs to which body. The repeating elements of the tusks, same sizes and same angles add well to the composition. Almost an OOTB image !
Hi Anette - There's something really compelling about the frame filling comp here and all the lines as Nancy said. I also really like the textures. I'm glad you had fun experimenting with the theme but I'm not sure this image really lends itself to HK. I took it into PS and played around with some simple tonal adjustments. I really preferred the image more tonal contrast, enhancing and bringing out all that texture and detail even more.
Rachel, so far this image was done in 5min pushing here a tad and there. Will do details, as those I left on the side. No HK, but the image is bright
Thanks a gain for your comments and time
Very well framed and lovely textures, the omission of colour and the whiteness help draw the notion of midday heat. Trying to understand why I like this, I thought about photography in general and how we are able to "see things" as in observing and then capturing that which we think is beautiful. How long this beauty survives all depends on our processing later on. I have seen many elephants in my life but after spending only minutes viewing this image I think I shall remember those two ellies for some time. I really like your work Anette.
Hi Anette, love this texture image. Personally I feel the image is a tad light. It was a mid day heat, but the shadow is very light. Also may be sharpening the elies a tad more. TFS. Loi
Hi Anette i really like the tightness of this frame . A ton of stuff to look with all this lines and cracks . Even if you went away from classic HK i prefer the RP a lot . Nice job in conversion and getting some nice tones.
Very nice job all around .
lovely and captivating shot! I love the white elephants at Etosha; am sure that I saw these 2 mates when I was there! I don't know if I would do anything much more with this shot...perhaps a wee bit tight but that is me!
Hi Anette, like the framing, but I too would like to see a bit more contrast/tone within some of the key parts to create a bit more 'form' it's perhaps a little too ghostly?????
I too love the frame-filling detail and textures here Anette.
Your RP works better for me. I also tried with even brighter whites as it seemed like a good idea but I didn't like the result.
I've yet to meet these proper white guys up close. The ones on the Namutoni side are not as ghostly as you know, and when we were in Okaukuejo area the rain came and the elephants stayed away.
Thank you very much Morkel. I am sure the day comes that you encounter them close. In peek times they come in a large number, about 15-18 bulls at a time. Many of them and some not quite happy when a car engine runs, those tourists leaving the engine on figure that out very fast & drive off faster
Thanks for commenting. I tried the lighter as well, as you said did not work on my screen either.
