I tried with this one to go for the "little to no shadows and light midtones" approach, since my giraffes were deemed to have too much contrast .
I generally like bright whites and deep blacks in my monochromes, so I probably won't process and print this image in this way ever, but it was a fun exercise.

    Hi Morkel,

I like it that way, just the zebras not to much in BG. Not that they are there, more that they look a bit, I do not know if you know what I mean.
But the elli looks very nice. Never tried a HK with such, need to do one

    Have a great eve

    Ciao
    Anette

This most certainly is one of those images you took from the underground hide. Wonderful POV looking up and making the ellie look so giant. The zebras, etc. in the bkgd look like tiny toys added & they are scrambling in chaos as the Big Guy comes into the picture ! If you want to manipulate the image more for fun, I would consider taking out the bkgd animals and just have the ellie stand alone and powerful.

Hi Morkel - I like the tones of the ele. You have retained nice detail and texture. However, I too am not a fan of the bg animals. The perspective seems off because you can't see the distance between the ele and the bg animals due to the ridge. As a result the ele looks like Gulliver and the bg animals like Lilliputians scurrying around. Since this is more of an artsy experiment, it might be worth eliminating them as Nancy suggested and also brightening the sky a bit. I think themes like this which get us to step out of our comfort zone help us expand our photographic vision.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Superb scene. I love the rest of the animals in the BG and the comp is fantastic. I do see halos around the Bull, but thats a minor observation and not a major issue in my opinion.

    Hello Morkel!

Lovely composition, I like the idea of this ellie towering over the landscape, with the small animals in the BG. Very arty and I do think it would look so good on canvas:)

You are being modest Morkel, this is a beauty and I can only imagine you are fishing for compliments, LOL

Give us some more of those experiments, please...

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Morkel, fun image. Took me a little while to recognize the giraffe and zebras in the BG. Would like to see them more visible I think. Love the shooting angle. TFS. Loi

I like the detail on the elephant and the concept of the shot and I like it in black and white tones....the elephant does look HUGE in contrast to the other critters, but if that was what you were trying to achieve you succeeded. Overall, from me - someone who is new and learning - an intriguing and interesting composition. I like it!
