From Black Rock Lodge, Belize, last February. Cloned out one branch above his head. Almost full frame. C&C appreciated as always.

Great flash work Bill. Exposure, sharpness is perfect. BG is not my favorite, maybe blending the orange in the upper right so that it is closer in tone to the rest of the BG would help.

I like the pose, details and the position of the perch in the frame. Impressive beak and eyes. I find the BG interesting!

The bird is wonderful. Perfect head turn and I like the way the tail is parallel to the perch.
    Excellent IQ.
I am not crazy about the BG. It looks like you burned the leaf behind the bird and it doesn't look right to my eye.
It sure looks hard to get clean shots in the jungle!

    Hello Bill!

First time I see an Aricari and quite fascinated with those bright reds and yellows:) I quite like this "camo" BG, nice DOF and the subject stands out so well. Would perhaps lift exposure a tad on those dark feathers, I cannot really comment that much on the colours as I have not seen this species before. Very nice detail on those chest feathers, subject sharp and I like the comp too - enjoyed viewing Bill, very much

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

    Thank you all.

Gail, although I agree that it looks like it, I didn't burn the large dead leaf behind the bird. I did remove an oof branch above the bird, but otherwise left the background pretty much as shot. Any suggestions on how to improve it would be welcomed. On this repost I've applied a rather major Gaussian Blur, and desaturated the yellow leaf in the URC; but it probably looks artificial.

Yes, it is difficult to get a clean background in the jungle. I forgot to mention that this guy was interested in the bananas on the feeder tray near the lodge, so was easier than most, but the bg is what it is.

Gabriela, on the repost I did dodge the blackest areas just a bit. Thanks for the suggestion.
