    Default Bull Can

Old bull canvasback little gray around the bill. Some people might think it's too tight but I love having them come in head-on filling the frame. Canon 7DII 500f4+1.4 extender ISO400 F5.6 @1000sec.

i like the low angle and the head-on pose. i like the leading edge of the water firm but I wish overall the water was a bit calmer. A pano comp with more room around the duck will work better here IMO.

Joe this is a great shot, great perspective and the bulging bow wave and the red eyes take/make? the cake--well done for putting this up...stuff like this inspires me to keep trying. Your nameology ( bull canvasback ) makes me think there might be a bit of offshore waterfowler in you background? I used to see a few of these each year when set up on the outer edge of the marsh but it's been many years since I last spotted one .

Just saw the post by Arash (he was typing while I was ) and I agree that more width would be another interesting perspective but then you might run into the old "what you get here you lose there" conundrum.

This is one heck of a kick butt image. Love that straight on pose and the small wake. Symmetry is spot on and the eyes are powerful. Wish this were mine b/c it's so unique.

Joe, a very powerful image you have here! I also wish it were in my files!

I might reduce some of the darker spots in the bg water, just to even things out and give the appearance of calmer water. But it still looks great as is!

Love that stare, the bulging eyes, and the bull neck. Reminds me of an Elephant Seal portrait that I created on my recent trip to the Southern Ocean.

Thanks everyone! Growing up on the Chesapeake Bay diving ducks are special to me and to the locals the canvasback is king of the bay. To take away something from the water or smoothen it out would just not be right it's a ruff and tough place that more days then not is filled with whitecaps in the winter.
