Hi all , another frame taken during my last SA trip in KTP in the Nossob River Bed close to Leeuwdril WH .
Canon EOS 1Dx
EF 200 - 400 at 560 mm with internal TC engaged .
lens support by bean bag
F 5,6 ; Iso 800 ; 1/1000 sec + 0,3 bias
Processed with DPP 4 and PS CC , cropped for comp and removed a bigger rock in FG .
I wished for better separation between the animals but in all frames of that sequence the horns of the Gemsbok where intersecting with one of the WB.
Hope you like it , thanks for watching and commenting to my previous posting
Hi Andreas - this works well though I agree with your self-critique. Nice tones and action with good sharpness. Another title could be "one of these things is not like the others" (for Sesame Street fans).
Thanks Dumay and Rachel for your comments ,much appreciated .
Dumay yes i am fully happy with the results DPP is giving me , it is a bit more limited than i.e. ACR/LR and still a bit clunky to work with , but for me the end result that goes to PS counts !!! I think the Canon engineers should know their files better than Adobe or other competitors and should provide the better algorithm for conversion . But in the end it is the operator who uses the software to make the most out of it .
Rachel your suggestion for the title could work too.... , at the time i watched Sesame Street i was not able to understand /speak english so i could not get the idea to use that phrase as a title for this .
Your image reminds me that in less than a month I'll be seeing and photographing scenes like this, it will be much hotter than October when we were there together and I am told the temperatures are already soaring in the KTP. I like the colours here, the warmth. The lighting conditions were probably quite difficult but you handled them very well. This image has a "golden" quality to it in terms of colour, the action you have captured brings memories of gemsbok and wildebeest competing for a place at a water hole, taking turns to drink, the odd squabble from time to time...
Well processed and I like the framing, while the gemsbok is most prominent the presence of the wildebeest does contribute to creating the story, another lovely image that sends me straight back to this place so dear to my heart - thank you Andreas!
Hi Andreas, like the overall composition and the 'galloping' Onyx with the plumes of dust being kicked up. The soft light has help the whites, was this towards the late afternoon? Obviously with hindsight, however I might have not engaged the TC, the reason I say that is it would have been nice not to have truncated the WB on the RHS, but in the heat of the moment....
Thanks Eric ; Gabriela and Steve for your kind comments ,much appreciated .
Gabriela i hope for you and Andre that you have a great time in your beloved KTP , i keep fingers crossed for you guys that you have great sightings and photo ops. .
Steve - shot was taken 7 am and even without the TC i would have had cut off WB , because they have been lined up there and did not want to fit in the frame without being cut .
