This frame was imaged on December 29th, 2013...but I sat on it until now. The pose was the ultimate perfect one, but there was a big problem. Some primaries of the wing to our left was cut off out the frame, plus the tip of the longest feather on the right was touching the other frame edge. This at 100mm too!! I am not very patient when it comes to processing but the pose just prevented me from binning it in case I decided to go ahead and fix it later on. Well, with another Snowy Owl irruption this year the time was now as my mind is currently on these owls. After adding canvas left and right I borrowed the matching primaries from the "good" wing, flipped them, then played with the curvature and spots to make them slightly different. I think it was well worth it, and hope you do too! I think I found a perfect spot in the house for a canvas print of this one...
Canon 7D + 100-400L @100mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1600s., f/6.3, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, horizontally more than FF (from 5184 to 6068 pixels), lightened the irises, darkened the wing and tail spots for more "pop". Baited.
