Hi Nancy - What great eye contact with the fox. He certainly seems to have posed for you. I like the wet nose too. Once you are going for the white high key bg, I would clean up the almost smudge like area in the upper right corner. A very pleasing image.

Rachel

Hi Nancy this is a very fine high key frame with nice tones and colors . Nicely framed and edited.
I only think the detail in key areas i.e. nose/eyes could be a bit finer they do appear slightly coarse , i guess it is a question of sharpening (well could be ) .Cause the techs given you should be able to get very fine detail in that close range photographed .
TFS and happy new year ,Andreas

Hello Nancy,
I loved this image straight away, beautiful portrait and fantastic colours! Great framing and that snowy BG helped create the hi-key effect you were looking for.
This is one of your best from what I have seen lately, great work Nancy, congratulations!

Love it, Nancy! Agree with Rachel to clean up BG. How far was he from you to have only that DOF @6,3?

Hi Nancy, the snow has certainly helped in this image and agree on having just a white BKG with no 'smudges' in it, nice and clean. Would have like some more DoF so at least you have the eyes to nose sharp, the tip looks as if it's just tailing off and a bit light, perhaps darkening it by selectively masking may help with some additional sharpening? Agree with Andreas, overall the detail does look a little course, at ISO500 the image should be finer. Very much like the framing/composition.

Very interesting shot Nancy, and always good to see the creative streak come out. Fits the theme well, and I agree that losing the dark patch top right would be nice.
In hindsight, maybe a slightly higher ISO with extra DoF would have been beneficial, but a beauty nonetheless

Thank you everyone! Andre, I was about 10 feet from the fox. I could hardly believe he stood there and looked right at me! Steve, et. al, I totally agree that camera settings could be better. New Year's Resolution: take a deep breath, think of camera settings as well as being excited about encounter! I did think to get low so I could be at the same level as the fox
. Andreas, most likely operator error on adjusting the sharpness. I so totally appreciate all the comments and critiques that help me "see" my images more clearly.
