With family at moment but spending a lot of time out in the field as usual this time of year. This is a portrait of one of the 3 sub adult males still bonded to a female. Conditions are really extreme here right now with heat haze coming into effect from 9am onwards so we are really finding it difficult to getting anything reasonable some days. This male was resting but alert and hungry around 11am and we were lucky to approach them pretty close to the road after a black rhino chased them out of a thicket earlier on.

Hi Carl - This looks really good with nice tones, detail and sharpness and a good bokeh. Good choice on the dof. Looks like you were close enough that the heat did not affect you. Only thing I would do if it were mine is reduce the magenta in the whites. Nice one.

    Happy Holidays and TFS,
    Rachel

Very good image of the cheetah Carl. Like the framing, the DOF, the BG and the tones/details. Very well done.

    Hi Carl

I really like this portrait, and I also really like cheetahs, so I couldīt help myself to try a smal adjustment. I selectively raised exposure 0,40 and added a bit saturation.

    WDYT?

Hi Carl super portrait of the Cheetah with nice tones and detail . Love the eyes and the concentrated look of the Cheetah. Very nice bokeh with the new ? lens , wonder that you use the 400 ? If so must be an awesome lens.

I would treat the image slightly different with a bit more pop .

I used a levels layer for setting a white point and the WB slightly different to more green and less red /magenta in the HL / mid tones. Followed by a color adjustment made in LAB color space and reverted back to sRGB.

WDYT ? could be a tad strong

    Cheers Andreas

    Hello Carl!

I look forward to meeting this young male... Lovely portrait with wonderful detail and sharpness, I certainly like the framing and presentation. F8 works here, nice DOF, lovely BG with those soft greens and a tad of pink:) Nice subtle changes from Gregor in his RP, adds a bit of warmth.

You know I like portraits, this - I think - is one of your best, Carl! Love that coarseness of the cheetah's fur and the focused eyes, he seems not to mind the little fly hanging from the eyelashes - I wonder what he was watching?

See you soon Carl, enjoy your evening

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Carl, great detail in the overall image, like the HS and open mouth. Think Andreas RP has helped, overall I just thought it needed a bit more colour in the image i.e. adding some Saturation without having to go to techi in the PP.

Thanks everyone for your input. Appreciate the repost examples. Andreas your colour adjustment does improve it slightly, thanks. This was in the shade so that is why I left it so but see the benefits, thanks. Happy new Year to all
