    Hi Guys,
Nice to know that you are enjoying this series of rough-legged hawk images. Stuck in the house today so I did some more editing. I call this one my "Christmas Angel". They seemed to like it on flikr anyway :-).

    Stats: EOS-1D Mark 4, 600mm - no teleconverter, 1/800sec, f/5.6, ISO800

Lovely pose, good sharpness and details. Don't know what time of a day this image was taken, it seems to be the BG is a little dark. I'd suggest bumping the exposure a tad and see it if would look better. Loi

A Beautiful pose, I would be thrilled to have that in my files. I think the background is very attractive but can see why

great pose captured giving us a unique view. Just for my learning, would 6.3 or 7.1 brought out more DOF for wing detail, or would the necessary bump in ISO to preserve SS not be desirable? Did you select the 5.6 for the better BG?

Hi Willie, I think that it would have been unnecessary at the distance that I was at to use a much higher F-stop. It was challenging as regards low light that day as well so going higher would only compromise my shutter speed. Got the face and most of the body in sharp focus so I was quite satisfied with the result. The BG was about a mile away so I probably could have used F/8 and still had it blurred if the light had of allowed it.

    Steve:

Unique pose, nice angles of wings, delicate perch doesn't block the view much. The overall luminosity works well on my monitor, as the brightest whites are in the low 240 range.

    Cheers

Just fantastic. Full of interest with the landing on that tiny branch. Superb sharpness but what I like most is the color palette.

    Hi Everyone,
Thanks once again for your comments. Caught the hawk as it was loosing it's balance. It had already perched so it needed to spread the wings and tail to try to stay upright. It was a bit late this year but I hope to make it into Christmas cards for next time.

    Take care and good light,

    Steve
