Fishing was good for this eagle on the Susquehanna River, below the Conowingo Dam.

    All C&C are welcome.

    Hi Norm,

Great action sequence you got to photograph. Looks like you were struggling with the light levels as your shutter speed appears to have been too slow to fully stop the eagle and it looks like some noise in the wings, possibly from pulling up your exposure. Looking forward to more, hopefully when there is some more light!

Have to agree with Lyle on this one. The underexposure and motion blur really hurt the image,

Thanks, Lyle. You are certainly right about the difficulty with the slow shutter speed. Despite ISO 1600 and f/6.3, the 1/640 shutter speed that I was able to muster was far slower than what would be required for really good results with that kind of fast action. The RAW file histogram, however, showed that the image was not substantially underexposed. Unfortunately, noise in dark areas at ISO 1600 with the D7000 is a problem that is difficult to overcome. I too look forward to capturing similar action in the future with good light!

I agree with the comments but I gotta say that I enjoy the action and intensity of the scene.

    Thanks, Daniel!

The technical issues experienced here under dark and gloomy sky conditions make me wish for an FX camera, with better ability to handle noise at high ISO settings, and for a faster lens. Hey Santa, there's still time!

Best wishes to everyone for the coming Holiday Season!
