We've just returned from another trip to the unique landscape of the Kalahari desert. Besides having to work hard for sightings with the onset of summer rains in some areas, I've got some interesting moments to share with you, and I'll kick things off with this tender moment between a large Giraffe bull and a youngster at a waterhole. These lanky ungulates were reintroduced to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the 1990s after being hunted out at the turn of the 20th century.

I'll get stuck into critiquing the images posted while I was away during the rest of the week!

Hi Morkel - What a great scene and special interaction. Dof, sharpness and colors all work great. The other giraffes in the bg really add to the scene for me. If it were mine I would give the main subjects a little more pop. What's the white speck that the male appears to be looking at? Looking forward to seeing more from your trip.

    TFS,
    Rachel

A butterfly - loads of them spawned after the first rains of summer.

very nice, a very natural image, maybe a bit more contrast. Cool about the butterfly.

    Welcome back

Love the pose and lighting here Morkel, although not having been to KTP and seen giraffe, they do appear a little flat here as well? An easy fix of course.

They are generally quite light and lacking in apparent contrast compared to other regions, this "journey" in particular (something I noted as we pulled into the sighting).
    Will play around, nevertheless...

That's interesting Morkel, certainly quite different and most unusual toning.

Hi Morkel welcome back great to hear you had a good time with your wife .

Very nice scene from the landscape POV and the two giraffes cuddling is adding a lot to it. Very nice colors and tones overall , but i would expect more brightness , looking at the sun angle . Cannot forget the brutal light at that time of the day .
The giraffes do look good to me .

Hi Morkel, a very nice scene of the two giraffes. Love the butterfly. When I saw it this morning thought it is a white bird in the distance, than was thinking, there are not gulls around :)
I as well would add a tad pop to the giraffes, but when they look like that in this region I wouldn t.
    have a great eve

    ciao Anette

Love the interaction and the butterfly. In a perfect world, the other giraffes wouldn't be facing/walking away. Not much you can do about that in the split second you had to capture the great interaction though.
