    Default Floppy Ears' Cub

This was my first sighting of the slightly famous (on this forum) Floppy Ear Lioness's cub. That is Floppies' tail and rump you see. I like the way the tail frames the youngster and you can see how close he still is to mom. I do have some with just him on the rock but as I say I like the framing of the tail. I will post one of the youngster by himself later and see what the thoughts may be.

Lovely sighting, what a cute little fellow! Great eye contact and nice colours. I am OK with the tail but not too fond of that rear end showing.

Thanks Sanjeev...you are probably right. I have never posted a image to my memory with a partial of another species but I thought the cute factor would overpower it. Here is one of the cub by its self.

Hi Dumay - from a rules and technical standpoint the second image is probably better without Floppy's rump in there and the cub's placement in the frame but there is something about the op that makes me prefer it. I think it's the eye contact and inquisitive look of the cub there and I do like the way the tail frames the cub.

While forum rules normally prohibit posting different images in one thread, it is ok for educational purposes so let's see what people think. Rump or no rump?

Hi Dumay have this little Lion been to the hairdresser ? The fur is looking so smooth .Very nice IQ in both posts , i quite like the framed youngster , make it work better rather than posting another single lion cub. The cuteness factor is also higher in OP for me because of the facial expression .
I prefer the tones of the second post a bit more overall depth , specially more form in the subject. Nice subtle colors in both images .
Have you used any NR in both images or is the 5D giving that much smoothness ? in OOF areas ?

    Thanks for the thoughts...
Rachel I had no idea we are not allowed to do this...Sorry...Not sure how long ago I read the forum rules (Or if I ever read them)
Andreas I always do a very week round of NR on all my images bt most of the time it doesn't really need it I just like the smoother look.

I love both pics for different reasons. The OP reflects a challenge: "OK, step over this line!" (mom's tail). The 2nd pic is nice in the sense that the cub seems to be trying to look vicious. I probably would have tried a slightly different crop for the 2nd one but that's irrelevant. Both are cute to the power of two!

Thanks Dumay, I like the RP very much. Though I prefer the expression of the cub in the OP. Very cute little guy & a sighting to be proud of! Well done!!

Very cute and appealing little cub. I agreed with the comment about the rear end of the adult competing for the viewer's attention. A vertical 4x5 crop that includes the adult tail on the left (and no more) might be worth trying.

Hi Dumay, for me they are definitely two stand alone images and therefore have their own merits, so will base my comments to the OP, but would suggest you have a quick refresh of posting, as they were update a while ago.

I might loose a little/fraction off the LHS, but not a huge amount, although I keep have this hankering to see all of the front paw. Looks a bit of a 'chubby' cub, certainly well fed, but those paws are massive. Like the soft detail and overall clarity/sharpness, looks spot on. Personally would like a bit more FG and I don't think it would harm the overall look & feel, just feel it then has better balanced? Did you apply any NR above the diagonal of the rock? Would try to avoid cropping the opposite way to the shooting format to retain IQ & px's.

    TFS
    Steve
