Default Hey Bro ......... i want that little piece of tree

    Hi all ,
during two days in Pilanesberg i saw quite a lot of Elephants in all sizes , mostly somewhere in thick bush or youngsters in high grass , so not ideal .
But the first evening there have been roundabout 40 ellies at Madikwe dam right at the Hippo Loop , very nice to watch them all hanging around at waters edge ,even if it was not possible to see them right at the edge most of the time due to the high reed .
These two were play fighting about a piece of, just ripped off , branch with fresh leaves .

I would have liked a better separation between the two and the rest in the BKG , but think it is just enough , only the one that peaks out with his back annoys me a bit .

    Canon EOS 1Dx
    EF 200 - 400 IS L at 400 mm
Window bracket and Gitzo fluid head

    F 8 ; Iso 800 ; 1/ 500 sec

Processed with DPP 4 and PS CC ; cropped for comp and removed a car on the other side of the dam . No grey socks envolved , lost them on the way from the KTP .

Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous thread .

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas, a fun image. Love the interaction and the little dust flying. Yes, the elie peaking thru is a bit of a problem. The two elies in front are just a little dark. May be brighten them just a tad. Loi

Very nice interaction you have captured. Mankwe dam can really provide amazing sightings but yes I have many shots from there with cars in the BG. I feel if you go any lighter on the subject Ellies' it will look artificial as it looks like you have already lightened them.

Hi Andreas - A playful image and you captured the action well. I agree with you about the ele over the top of the right hand one but not a deal breaker. Nice waterhole scene with difficult lighting.

Thanks Loi , Dumay and Rachel for swinging by and leaving your thoughts.

Loi .... listen to Dumay regarding lightning the front ellies .
Dumay thanks , no lightening of the front ellies . Almost as per shot . i exposed as always to the right and had to bring back some HL detail in post . So could work with the darks as taken . I just gave the darks a bit more punch in post .

Thanks again folks , cheers Andreas

An enjoyable image to view. The interaction is an important part of the story here. Nicely captured.

I did agree that lightening the foreground eles would help and so would reducing the slight green cast in the elephants and the water.

Thanks Douglas for your thoughts and suggestions , but there is no green cast in the water and the elephants in FG . if one checks very critically you find some green "cast" in the back elephants as a reflection from the surrounding grass/reed. After your comment i checked with the eyedropper (set to LAB) for the greens . But the eyedropper did not find any , specially visible for our eyes.

Hi Andreas, lovely playful capture, the LH lee with the branch is priceless. Agree on your own observation about the water/BKG/Ele, but no deal breaker. Colours looks good to me.
