Hi all , i tend to go against the trend
by posting a poser in real life taken in KTP one dull grey morning . This Oryx came galloping from the other side of the riverbed straight into my direction , so i stopped the car and started shooting . I was just looking the VF and was thinking will this guy run into my car ? no he did not some meters away he changed mind and direction , stood for a very short moment . And then moved on .........
I just like this posing habit of this guy , and i wanted to include the kicked up dust for some more dynamic in the image .

F 11 ; Iso 6400 ; 1/1250 sec , what a fancy setting for a dull grey morning, could have saved some ISO by stopping down , actually i do not know how i do get these settings .

Image processed with DPP 4 and PS CC ; cropped for comp , i could have gone lighter and with more tonal range but in this stage it kind of nicely reflects the light conditions at time of shooting .

Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous thread .

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas, I think you are right with your observations, both in terms of techs & PP. I think the raised leg and dust adds to the content, as it provides the impression that the Oryx stops suddenly/abruptly. I quite like the framing and it helps to have the horns in the green of the trees to provide separation. With the BKG having a slight slope to the ground, it may appear visually that it needs a rotation, but the subject looks fine so no need.

Nice capture here Andreas. Like the 'Hey German" pose/look and the dust along with leg movement which indicates some action. Also nice definition and tone achieved here. Great work.

I have reposted this image with my thoughts as to improving. I feel that it could be a portrait crop as I feel the crop as is feels off balance, too much space on the right. Also I have done a 2 degree CW rotation and I felt it needs it. i also feel it could be brightened a little to give it more punch. I didn't mess with the colours or brightness, only crop and rotation....Hope you don't mind

Hi Andreas - the galloping pose and the kicked up dust add to the image and while it is a nice portrait, the flat light and tones just isn't doing it for me. I understand it reflected the time and conditions, and you know that is what I prefer to do, I just think you have posted much better oryx/gemsbok images.

As to the rotation, I do think the trees and bg look more level in Dumay's rp as do the eyes. I guess it depends on whether the terrain was sloping.

    Rachel

Thanks Dumay and Rachel for your comments /suggestions and RP . As always much appreciated .

Dumay by cropping like you did, classically a good choice , but it changed the content completely and could not be my target .I had the idea to include the landscape into the scene. No problem for me you made an RP , always feel free to do so .

Rachel i would have liked the scene happening in great light ....... but it was not the case . So took the option in bad flat light , for sure i have better ones , but the habit of this Oryx was quite unique , so i opted to post this , knowing this would not be the best image from the aesthetic POV. The location was sloping from left to right and there is no need for the eyes being leveled because the head is kind of cocked ( right wording? ) .

Anyhow thanks again . Cheers Andreas
