    Default Juvenile Double-creasted Cormorant

    Waiting patiently for the sun to rise high enough to aid in drying off soaked feathers. Took this image from the car last weekend at Chincoteague Island. The early morning light was exceptional. C&C welcome as always.

    D700, Nikon 500mm + 1.4 tc, 1/250, f 5.6, ISO 1250, Gitzo tripod, Wimberley Gimbal head, Lens on beanbag from car.

    Removed distracting branch from perch in cs6.

    Geoffrey,

    I'm usually all about getting as low as possible for a good perspective, but you were at the right height here to get the clean background. Any lower and you start to bring in some of the bank behind the bird.

    As Dan mentioned, the perch is a nice plus!

    I like the pose and the perch, good BG albeit a bit noisy . subject is a bit soft to my eye.

    That's a pretty appealing image of the cormorant! Very good vertical comp, and I like the water. I even like the diagonal strand of vegetation crossing the base of the perch creating neat geometrical lines and shapes.
