A reminder that November is almost over and it's time to get your predator images ready for December's theme as well as to post any last minute images for November's "Texture" theme.

Another of one of the male lions feasting on the buffalo kill taken down the night before. Due to the steep access to the area, we were the only ones there for most of the morning. This was taken at about 7 a.m. in the Timbavati Game Reserve, South Africa.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

Awesome image Rachel, with terrific detail & sharp as tack! I love the way the lion is digging into the kill with those focussed eyes. No nits at all, just superb!

Hi Rachel, nothing like getting into the thick of it. Gory perhaps, but that is life in the bush, however these animals kill to eat, unlike man that kills for trophies. Interesting to see your angle compared to mine and how different perspectives offer different depictions of the event. I think if the sun was on the other side and not behind the hill, both lighting & techs would have been better for us, but hey we got the shots and took the gamble to access the site. Nice to have the eyes open and the look says it all.

Thanks Sanjeev and Steve. Yes, Steve, the light at the sighting was never really good but at least the lions kept moving around the kill a bit so that eventually we were able to get a few angles that worked for each of us. And I'm sure it is a sighting we will remember for a long time.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

    Hi Rachel

Love it, really portrays the raw side of Nature, the side that is not PC, but show it as it really is. These cats exist not to inspire awe to the photographer, they need to eat...

In this image my eye goes to the lion's eyes and the rack of Ribs, while the buff's face adds some reality.
Would crop a bit tighter from the bottom,it places more emphasis on lion's eyes and loses distracting OOF bit bottom.
Know you don't clone, but I would remove dark twig on bottom right.
    Very powerful image.
    Regards

    Andre.

    The circle of life!
This image requires a few moments to take in. The eyes go straight to the scrunched up lip and eyes of the lion and then to the red ribs. It takes a moment to realize the buffalo head is upside down and looking at us.
This really makes the image powerful and very intimate.
I would lose the twig in the RHS lower corner in a heartbeat but certainly not a deal breaker.
    IQ is excellent,
    Gail

    Hello Rachel

Love this, no gore whatsoever for me - but then you know I like wildlife "as it happens", even though I have a soft heart for the small and vulnerable ones in nature:)

Not fond of human hunters but when I comes to lions it is a different story, these guys must eat to survive...

High dramatic content here, and what a display of prowess as the lion tucks into the flesh of the defeated buffalo - for a moment I had the feeling I was looking at this scene from my car window:)

A vivid and clean image in terms of processing, colours look great and sharpness present where most needed, wouldn't change anything, I like it as is, very much.

Sorry to come in so late, last night I looked and wanted to comment but we had another surprise from Eskom who decided to cut our power supply without any notice, it is called "load shedding"...

Hope you have a wonderful day, and maybe you find some time to delight us with more images from this trip

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Nice glint in the eye here, pretty gory but a cool sighting Rachel.
I'd consider toning down the brights at about 10-15% multiplied highlights layer?

Nothing to add here - there is great detail everywhere, colours are spot on and I always like to see well executed photos of lions feeding - I've seen enough bad ones!
Great shot - reminds me to post a similar image of lions feeding on an elephant.
