I was thinking this when i took image sod this Red Hartebeest in KTP during my recent trip . On one day in Polentswa area there have been quite strong winds , the result you can see in this image . All the fine dust got pushed all over the land an from time to time the visibility was something like 5 m or even less.Image taken right at Polentswa WH during midday.

I found the natural effect quite interesting , i was 50 /50 about how much detail will i process ? IN the original frame there was hardly any detail visible , so went half way .

    Hope you like it.

Love the ghostly appearance from this Hartebeest, Andreas! Colours work for me, composition/presentation too! One of your best images for the KTP so far, very different from the rest, although I know you've got more stunners waiting to be processed:)

You captured a wonderful mood here! I'd be inclined to get rid of the sand structure at the bottom. Simplicity is the power of this image.

    Are we More lost now?

    Still @ Polentswa!!!

Maybe even crop tighter for being lost more?

Hi Andre - Very well envisioned and captured. This really conveys a desert mood and colors. The rp does it for me. I think it's just the right amount of detail. I think you and Gabriela will be fighting for wall space because this is another one I would blow up and hang on the wall. It would probably look great on canvas too. Congrats on this one.

This is beautiful Andreas. Very out of the box!
I like the composition and space around the antelope in the OP but wish the ground wasn't there. When the ground is cropped out the composition feels off to my eye.
If you are not anti-cloning you could crop out the ground then extend the canvas back to the original crop with content fill aware.
I could also see a version as a landscape crop with lots of room on the right and all the ground cropped out.
Still really like it as is,
    Gail

I played around a bit to get what I envisioned when I saw your image. I also tried Gails suggestion for a landscape version, but preferred the standing crop of the original. I came up with this (cropped and used the clone tool to cover the remaining sand on the ground). Hope you don't mind all the fiddling with your image. It's just too good not to want to play with it!

Hi Andreas - Sorry about that for some reason the rp confused me and I thought it was Andre's. Great job on this one.

Hi folks thanks all for your comments and your suggestions regarding cropping ,cloning .

I actually quite like the OP , to me the various versions are having no foot for the HB to rest , looks like floating in the desert . I would say i prefer Andreīs version leaving a rest visible , good job Andre .But then i think the image is less balanced from comp POV .

So i reworked just low Res file , by blurring the FG with an inverted RGB layer and filtered it High Pass filter and blend mode set to soft light (twice) , next step was moving the image downwards , add black layer mask and painted in the content from the blurry sand storm at low opacity just to keep a hint of the OP FG as a foot for the subject .

WDYT ? I think i would keep even a bit more if i would print it .

    Cheers Andreas

Ps : Andre this file has just 150 kb , anything wrong ? There is just that little info in the file , thatīs why !

Hi Andreas - I agree with you that it needs a bit of the sand in the fg to anchor the image. Personal preference as to how much. Your rp looks good.

Andreas, the OP works for me and the FG acts nicely as an anchor.

Thanks to Sanjeev , Jerry and Steve .
I am actually still 50/50 between my OP and RP .

Still have time to decide which version will find the way to a wall to rest .

Thanks again to all who watched and left a comment .

    Cheers Andreas

    Hello Andreas,

Been looking again at the OP, the RP's and suggestions/comments. I believe I have made up my mind about this and wanted to share briefly my thoughts with you because I like this image so much.

To me the OP is still best. The subject would be too "lost", or "floating" among all the dust if it wasn't for the "anchor", or FG , as Steve said above. I love the the way the FG leads the eye and I think/feel you left too little of it in the RP. Just my 5 cents

Well done, I like your thinking, you surprise me with each and every post

Thanks Gabriela for sharing your 5 cents , more than my 2 , so you beat on this.
Actually i think (still in progress ) my initial thinking was right . Your wording regarding " being too lost" is just right .

    Thanks again Andreas

Well seen Andreas, and well executed. Most points are already covered, so for what it's worth, I prefer to see quite a bit of the 'anchor' foreground - it just makes for a more rounded shot

I agree that the shot needs an anchor for context. In fact, the foreground showing up so far below the HB shows what a massive sand-storm it was. I would go with your RP, Andreas.

Hi Andreas, is it on the wall already? I would go for square crop and would get rid totally of the FG. So far where the dust begins :)
    Late but never know lolol
