This past weekend was spent at Chincoteague Island Wildlife Refuge in Virginia. Though we expected to see a few more species, we did see several we were hoping for, one of which was the Brown-headed Nuthatch(lifer for me) most of the time just out of range high in the canopy. One very nice encounter was with this lifer for me, the juvenile White Ibis who gave a nice wing stretch while spotting minnows in channel below. The light was low, but created a very nice quality. C&C welcome.
D700, Nikon 500mm + 1.4 tc, 1/320, f 5.6, ISO 1000, Gitzo tripod, Wimberley Gimbal head.
Small amount of canvas added on right side in cs6.

I really like this pose and the perch is unique. Personally I'd add a little more exposure to this and possibly set the white point on the white rump area to see how it changes.
Good one, Geoffrey. You captured a great pose (as often happens, this was the one moment I chose to look away). The juvie did pick a very dark spot along the waterway -- nice job stopping the action at 1/320s. The RP is an improvement but still seems a bit bluish to me. Blues on the white rump are about 40 points higher than reds. It does accurately represent the setting, but I wonder if a little more warmth might be worth trying. (Oh, and congrats on the lifer.)
I love the pose, perch, and most of the BG. Cleaning up the twigs in upper left corner will take this up a notch IMO. I also agree with a warmer WB...but I love the subdued light.
