Put a small covey of Grey Partridge up and they flew only a few yards, and landed in grass hiding,so I crept up and managed to take this,I think it thought I could not see it,and managed to get this as it peeked at me.cannon 500mm IS,F4,MK1,7D MKI,tripod.iso800,1/125S,F5.6,EC +1/3.EC.CROP,sharpened,lightened a touch.

Cool shot Chris, lovely to see it like this. Looks like the main focus was on the back? TFS

    Chris:

Love the crouched pose with cautious lookback, the dewey grass adds a lot, Comp works well too.

I think the repost is oversharpened for my taste. Somewhere in between.

I would consider lowering the luminosity of the lowest foreground just a sliver, so it isn't quite so noticeable.

    Cheers

Chris there is a little loss of sharpness on the head of the OP(didn't really show you a lot to shoot at in that typical Grey Pose(If you don't mind me saying so I would just add a little sharping to the head and leave the rest alone, that's the negative done,do like the bird crouching in the wet grass and very well done getting in a position where you could get a very good shot like this the wet grass ,do find with game birds that they are not so keen to take to the wing when they are wet. It's the type of shot that I like very much.
PS they are almost a rare bird in my part of Lincolnshire.

    Cheers Keith.

Chris looking again on my monitor, you know I don't think the sharpness on the original post was a million miles out, I often do things on my images and afterwards think wish I had left it alone.

    Cheers Keith.

Hi Chris, good low angle, and I really like the surrounding droplets. HA looks good, and agree, just a touch of selective sharpening will work on the head. Well captured.

I like the low angle, look back pose, setting and composition. I agree with the sharpening somewhere between the two versions. Well done Chris.
