I thought I would add a rhino image to the theme this month.

    Canon 7D
    300 II
    1/1250
    f7.1
    ISO 800
HH, slight crop for comp but shot in portrait, luminosity mask, levels, curves, selective color adjustments, sharpened in CCPS.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

Hi Rachel, a beautiful portrait of this Rhino. The vertical comp works superbly, good separation of the BG from the subject.

Hi Rachel -- These are such amazing gentle giants and always an awesome sighting and encounter in the bush; it is so sad to see what is happening to them with all of the poaching and corruption. Lovely comp here, great details, and nice separation from the BG. Well done. My only nit would be that some of the shadows appear on my screen to be a tad blocked up (e.g., behind ear, below neck, mouth area), so might try lifting the shadows just a touch in those areas.

Hi Rachel, nice portrait, good call on the orientation.

Good detail/tones (especially from the 7D ) and I like the contrast of the environment, the way the grass and bushes 'sandwich' the subject so to speak. Agree on the dark shadow areas needing to be adjusted, the ear in particular, but the others are very minimal. I think this has come from the Curves/Selective colour adj, easily addressed, but certainly would help.

Hi Rachel very nice side portrait of the rhino , with superb separation from the BG/FG . Like the colors /tones /detail . Agree with Mark about lifting the shadows slightly .The bg is giving a nice layers effect .

    Hello Rachel,

I cannot say I remember each and every one of your rhino images but my feeling is, this is one of your best. I particularly like the way the subject stands out against the BG and also that the image retains some detail when it comes to the environment - perhaps some selective sharpening of the grass, but not too much - whatever you did, works for me:) Crop is great and you allowed that bit of sky..nice touch:)

Great details, natural colours, nice and sharp, maybe some darker shadows here and there but personal taste and to me not a big issue. I love this as is

Warmest regards and wishes of a great week-end,
    Gabriela Plesea

Nice profile here Rachel - light well handled and a head-lift is always nice from a White Rhino.
Looks like this one was dehorned when younger and it grew back on the stump.
