    Default Mama Deer Foraging

    Attached Images Attached Images

Between work and a new puppy (a 7-month old Irish Water Spaniel), I feel so rusty with my camera and PP, so here is an attempt to get back into the game.

Image taken at Necedah National Wildlife Refuge in Wisconsin 2 months ago. This Mama deer was foraging near the road with her fawn nearby. It was a cloudy morning. I normamlly don't shoot at F4, but decided to give it a try.

    Appreciate your comments.

    Thank you.

P.S. I will be back to Africa in 22-30 April 2015. On impulse, I signed up for the Predator Photo Workshop with Greg du Toit in Mala Mala and Mashatu Game Reserve.

Hi Loi -- Congrats on the new pup - loving the images of the pooch that you having been posting on FB. Nice image here - like the low angle and inclusion of the front leg. Nice details and sharpness even at f4 and handheld; nice! My only nit is that there seems to be a slight magenta cast coming through in places, but it could be my eyes are going nuts from staring at this screen all day today (mostly work, a bit of PP). You will have a blast at MM and Mashatu with Greg - can't wait to see the images from that trip

Hi Loi - I'm sure the new pup is a lot of fun. Nice image of the doe. The pov works well and you can certainly see that she is enjoying that lush green grass. Detail looks good. I agree with Mark about the magenta cast and also see some blues coming through in the whites, particularly around the ears. Easy fixes if you are so inclined.

Hi Loi , i agree being a nice image of the doe . F 4 is working for me , why do you not shot open F stop ?
I think Dumay is doing it very successful , depending on the subject/situation !
Nice detail and sharpness ,blacks are looking borderline and the greens are looking a tad to saturated to me . Magenta/blue already pointed out by Mark/Rachel.

Hi Loi, good to see you getting back into the saddle again although as Mark said, the images of the pooch are nice.

Great to have such a tame & cooperative subject, just been doing some deer myself, not ideal and some quite standard images which I will share, but as it rutting time you have to be rather careful. key points already raised, but the grass is something I would look at.

Just check, but ensure you have got some bookings for the underground bunkers as they allow you some great POV.

Nice detail in this one, Loi. Colours already mentioned which I agree with.
That promises to be a great trip - and yes make sure you book time in the bunker!

Thank you everyone for your comments. On the road again, so will look for that color cast later. Color cast is something I still don't think clearly when processing an image. Thank you Steve and Morkel for the tips regarding booking the bunker.
