For a long time I ignored photographing this bird, always seeing them in large rafts offshore. Seeing them close I have come to enjoy watching and photographing them. Out of water the body is quite round and the feet are absolutely alien looking. I captured this one swimming as fast as it feet would propel it pushing up a bow wake as it swam. Image captured at Lake Mirror, Lakeland, Florida. Comments and critique welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

They are nice birds, I also like to capture them. Good shooting angle, perfect exposure and nice overall, Joe.
People might say that a lower angle would have been better but may times you just don't have that option.
Great IQ on the subject, and I like that we can see the leg under the water. Great job with the bill and forehead. I'm OK with the perspective as is. I do see some possible alternative crop options though...

Karl, lower is difficult at this lake. It is surrounded by a concrete walkway used as a promenade in the center of the city. Also working against getting lower is being overweight and seventy-one years old, to be young again.
