Hi folks
photographed this strange looking White Rhino during my recent trip to SA .
Must have been injured or the horn cut off in early days .
IN that location i saw everyday numerous of them , top of the rank was something between 40-50 on one day , what an experience .
Canon EOS 1Dx
EF 200-400 IS L at 200 mm
HH
F 5,6 ; Iso 5000 ; 1/640 sec
Processed with DPP 4 and PS CC ; cropped for comp slightly from all sides .
A lot of gardening in this image , there was so much burned grass and stuff , across the horn etc , so i thought i remove that .
I tried SnapHeal Pro ; worked great specially with that fine stuff
Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous thread.
Very unusual horn! I suspect you are correct that it is regrowth. Good job on the gardening. I cannot tell. Good composition for showing the unusual horn as well as all the details of the head. Their ears also appear to come out of the neck! Fine details on the skin, showing the viewer the texture and all the scratches. This really holds my attention. Must have been truly amazing to see so many rhinos in one day!!
Hi Andreas - Very unusual horn and the comp works really well to show it off. Looks like he's had some battles too. I wonder if it is an advantage or a disadvantage. Nice low pov and good detail too. Looking forward to more.
Very interesting! Nicely framed too - could it use a touch more exposure?
Would you believe me if I told you that I have not been to "that" location yet in my life??
Thanks folks for your kind comments , much appreciated .
Morkel for me the exposure is right but could try a slightly lighter version , thanks .Steve poked me in the eye with the WB , saying it is slightly too yellow /warm mainly in the grass . Will look at both suggestions .
Morkel i actually do not understand that you have not seen "that" place , so easy to see them there , as far as i can tell from two visits .Can`t be only by chance .
I kind of "jumped" directly to your image because I thought I recognized this fellow with its unusual horn and I guess I know where it was taken:) Nice point of view and angle too, the presentation is great. Nice work Andreas, and I love the detail and those marks on the body. I too think a lighter version would be better, worth a try.
Morkel, you are welcome to come and stay in our guest cottage anytime if you wish to visit the area and do some photography, just let us know. If available, we could book a night in the tented camps and stay the week-end, drop us an email or give us a call sometime...
Andreas, hope to see more from you, I am busy backing up my images from the last trip right now and creating some space on the hard drives, getting a bit organised and then you'll hear (and see!) more from me in Wildlife...
Thanks Gabriela , hope you get your stuff organized soon an start posting my sister !!!! I am very excited what you come up with at first !!!
You will see for sure more from our/my trip , just wait .
Huggie bear is hugging back , cheers Andreas, (Mr B.E.)
Hi Andreas, as an image the actual framing doesn't rock me I'm afraid, sorry, but from the aspect of such a sighting, this I assume, can only be a rarity? I wonder what would cause it to grow in such a fashion and would it have any harm/influence to the animals normal day to day behaviour? Yes, I do think it's a fraction off, but you were there and generally have a very good eye for colour & balance, the grass well that is personal taste, but there is more you can do if you wish as you know, your call.
