    Default Grey Butcherbird (female)

Widespread in s. and e. Australia. Feeds on insects, small reptiles and birds (especially nestlings). This individual nested in my garden this year and with her partner has raised one chick which is about to fledge. Unfortunately, the nest is in an awkward position and I have only been able to take shots at long range recording feeding activity.

Canon 5DIII + 600 mm f/4L II + 1.4x III extender, 600EX-RT flash with Better Beamer, Kirkphoto King Cobra gimbal with flash bracket, Gitzo 3532LS tripod.
Manual, spot metering, spot AF, f/11, 1/200 sec, ISO 800, 1/8 flash power.
Processed with DPP4 and PS Elements.

Thanks for looking, critical feedback welcome.

Nice pose of the Grey butcherbird Ian, sharp and good detail maintained in the whites. Did you have a choice of perch, I find this one a little chunky but do like the moss/lichen.

Hi Ian, agree with John re the perch but if it's natural there is not a lot you can do about that, bird looks very neat and sharp and I do like that dark BG.

Beautiful shot with a lot of details. Lovely pose and exposure and I really like the moss on the perch. Agree with the above comments re the perch. TFS

Very nice image Ian. Lovely and sharp and the colours on the bird compliment the BG. Well done and thanks for sharing
