Nice colors and BG, I also like the pose. The IQ is not quite there though, the details look coarse\crunchy to my eye, maybe from too slow shutter speed. BG is still noisy needs more NR. There is a dominant sharpening halo around the chest area. I fine the OOF trunk a bit distracting

I went back and reprocessed it. Hopefully the noise is less noticeable and the image looks sharper. I'm not worried about the sharpness of the tree in this image...just testing the camera out.

The re-post is better, the face is still a bit soft but better than the original. BG still shows noise.

The re-post looks worse on my monitor as the larger crop didn't help. Looks like you have applied NR globally?
ISO 3200 is a tough start for the new 7Ds first images but it looks better than the last at ISO3200.
Your previous post of a WP shot with your 1DMkIV looks much better for some reason. TFS

I have to agree, the 2nd image looks worse. Still, all problems look very workable.

Nice pose on the woodpecker beautiful BG. I also think the OOF tree trunk is a bit distracting.

Most of the issues pointed out are processing issues that should be easy to work out, but the main thing going against you here is the subject perched behind the stump rather than on the side or slightly in front. Well focussed on the eye. and I can see that there are good details. I like the subdued overcast light.

Congrats on the new camera...it looks very promising and hope to see more form it!

Hi Gary, I will be very interested to see more of your test images with the 7D mk2. I'm also seriously thinking of making a purchase.
