Another view of the bighorn ram photographed in Jasper National Park. This one posed nicely for several minutes as the sun popped in and out of the clouds. 1D IV, 70-300 mm L at 95 mm, 1/2000, f/6.3, ISO 400, tripod. All comments are welcome and appreciated.

Beautifully composed with nice light and superb BG. I like the head turn and that eye contact. Well done and TFS.

Hi Steve, this has really elevated you last post, beautiful.

I really like the whole image, perspective, position, content and the way all the elements seem to gel together and having a large amount of the environment, it just gives context. Just an observation, but my only thought would be if you have used any NR on the BKG, it looks very smooth and therefore to back off, but this might be the laptop? Likewise to add a small Luminosity % or a Channel Curves adjustment to help bring a bit more tone back into the horn.

Did you do the drive to Banff, that's a cracking drive and full of photo opportunities.

Hi Steve - I agree this is even better than your last and absolutely magnificent. The image design is perfect with the placement in frame of both the ram and the distant mountain. The clouds add drama. Beautiful light, detail and sharpness. It all works for me though Steve's suggestion about the highlights on the horn is a good one.

    TFS,

Framing, pose, background are all stellar here Steve!
I agree, toning down the brightest brights with a luminosity mask will add loads of depth here.

The extra space all around makes this one even better than the last. Nice to have a cooperative model.

I agree with the above comments - fine image. I like the placement of the subject, the head angle and the proud stance. Nicely done.

Super shot Steve I really like the composition, I don't think the ram is overexposed but I would lower the brightness on him and that area a little also maybe a little Selective Colour (Blacks)on the ram would increase his pop factor a little.

    Brilliant job , Steve.
Love this one for all what it stands for . Good suggestion given by others above regarding toning down the HL .

Thanks for the comments everyone! They are much appreciated! Based on your suggestions I reprocessed the image. I backed off somewhat on the NR of the background. I also used the Tonal Contrast and Detail Extractor filters in NIK Color Efex Pro 4 to tone down the bright areas of the ram and to add a bit more punch to the image. What do you think? Is this an improvement?

Steve K - We drove about half way to Banff one day - great mountain landscapes! Turns out most of the wildlife we saw was within about a 5-mile radius of the town of Jasper.

Hi Steve, I think it has improved it where it needed a little tweak, however I do feel it has left the image looking a fraction 'crunchy' in parts, but perhaps that's the laptop maybe, but also I'm not a fan of DE/TC because of this reason, just my take , likewise the overall light has changed with more depth in the shadows, but which do you feel reflects the original capture? For me it's a combination of the two, but with zero NR, at ISO400 on the 5D I feel there is no reason to apply it.

I agree with the Wildlife, it's just a nice drive, especially the 'horseshoe bend'. I did Banff, Jasper, Banff in the day during the Winter as we often skied in Lake Louise, certainly a totally different look & feel, but equally nice in the Summer months too.
