    Default Australian Grebe

A shot of 2 Australian Grebe's chasing after a female who was calling. Shot on a Canon 1DX & 500mm F4 + 1.4xTCIII 1/640s @f5.6 ISO1000. I used a Gitzo GT3542LS tripod and Jobu Pro 2 Gimbal for support down at water level. This was shot late afternoon around 5pm with the sun setting at 7pm. It's a slight crop and sharpened with Artie's great Nik 50/50 contrast/detail extractor + a 50% unsharpened layer mask and noise reduction on the background.

    Joe:

Excellent shooting angle, nice to get them both close to same plane re: DOF, although a bit more for the left hand bird would have been nice. The foreground water is very good, wish the bg water a bit smoother.

The open bills, yellow gape and eyes, really catch your eye.

Do you have anymore room on the right to show the entire bird?

    Cheers

You have made a remarkable image. I imagine this was optimum image to achieve focus on both birds and therefore not getting all the bird in was the price paid. Well done.

Thanks for your feedback Randy, unfortunately no I don't, they were so close to minimum focusing that is the far right of the image.

A great capture of our Aussie Grebes Scott! Love the low perspective and the grebe's behaviour. Both heads being in sharp focus makes this image work for me.
