With work and school holidays preventing me from getting out and about with my shiny new camera (!) here's another from last year.

I normally like to use the rich autumn colours when available, but this stag struck his pose against a blank sky, so I thought 'why not?'

Yes I must get get back to Tatton to get something along these lines. The rough grass with thistles and the backdrop of the sky make for a pleasing presentation. He is one fine stag, good focus and exposure, I like the eye contact, and the natural wild appearance to the image.

Hi Mike, PP looks good, is this with the new set-up?

If you have it, then perhaps a bit more space to the right & below would be good, just a sliver on the tight side for me at the foot. I like the pose & side profile of the head, shows off the rack nicely, in fact this was the post I was thinking of for Steve M's ram image. Like the fact the ground is on a slop adds another element to the framing, also good to have a hint of colour in the sky. You will find that the EV on the 5D3 is different in that you may find you are use the + more. Using the ETTR method will be great to develop on this camera where you will gain a lot more info in the image content. Hope you manage to get out this week.

Hi Mike - I missed this one. Nice light and pose. I like the placement in frame. Sharpness and detail look good. I too would prefer a bit more room below.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I've added a little bit more below to see what you think. I've tried to put into practice some of the PP comments from other threads, so glad it looks OK to experienced eyes.

Steve, this is still with the old camera - got a couple of hours with some woodland birds yesterday, and needed ISO 2000, which was very clean, so am very impressed with the 5d3 so far.

A nicely composed image of a good looking stag. I like the pose and the parallel line of the ridge and the antler tips.
