I'm sure I've read somewhere that this species is sometimes referred to as the "parrot" of the north....imo, this image leaves no doubt as to why Canon7d, Sigma50/500os, iso800, 1/500, f9, cropped, NR to the bg, USM. Comments and critiques welcome. Regards,
    Shawn Zierman.

Shawn really like the pose and half eaten berries and that nice dark BG,not got all the colours true on my new monitor but this all looks very good to me.

Shawn that looks super to me, whoa, I love the pose and the colours and as Keith says the background is really setting the bird off nicely - well done!

This is one heck of an image, Shawn. Love the bird and berries against that dark BG. The pose is the icing on the cake.

Great to see such an interesting behavioural pose. Having the blank background and the left works perfectly with the branches on the right

What a delight to view. Beautiful scene all the way around. Bird, berries, background, pose, all add up to make a memorable image.

This is a killer image. Love the head angle that allows me to see the face, the berry, the tongue and the catchlight.
    Great colors and great BG.
My only suggestion to improve this fine image would be to blend the OOF whitish branch that intersects with the head,
    Gail

Love it, Shawn. Fabulous pose, and the light on the berries is to die for. Nicely done, indeed.

I read that too about this species, and also for the Red Crossbill. Very parrot-like, at least in some behaviours. I really like the pose here and the eaten berries tell the story. I agree with Gail's suggestion, but all else looks great.

    Shawn,
Spectacular image. Wonderful colors and details. Love the pose, perch and the way it pops up against nice dark BG.

    Regards,
    Satish.
