A long time since I posted a bird photo.....
Taken at the Oregon Coast while shooting landscapes today when this guy flew in and landed close to me.
We don't usually see them very close here although they do come here for the winter.
Put on a 70-200 w/ the only extender I had with me and took this full frame.
    Very cooperative Bird.

    70-200, f2.8 w/ 1.7 tc, 340mm, f8, 1/1250, iso250, D800

Hi Dan, excellent details and sharpness. The BG and the eye look just a touch dark to me. TFS. Loi

nice pose light and details, a bit head turn towards us would have been ideal

Love the composition...these birds are so perfect for verticals with that long bill and neck. The emerging droplet is a nice little touch. I might go a bit brighter overall. Looking forward to more birds! Been too long.

Love the warmth and color contrast between the bird and the background. Technically rock solid imo. Really nicely sharpened details. I think it's nice that the background has some definition too in terms of tonality. I was in a Astoria in late june about 4 years ago and saw a crap ton of these at the beach...but there appeared to be a feeding frenzy going on with the incoming surf...

I like the colours, details, composition. A bit better head turn would have been cool, but OK as is as it is parallel to the sensor. There is a small faint whitish oof area at bottom edge that you could eliminate if you wish.
