    Is this a immature Black-chinned or a juvenile Anna's?

I'm not good with juvenile or female hummingbirds, so hopefully someone else will chime in...but you could also throw in Ruby-throated Hummingbird in the mix of possibilities.

I'm not the best at separating female hummingbirds, but I think I'd call this a Ruby-throated. Judging from the bill shape, I don't think it's Black-chinned. Here's a nice summary of separation points:

I think Anna's tends to have more green wrapping onto the sides and would look heftier. I think those slightly buffy areas under the wing and near the base of the tail favor Ruby-throated. I've seen it on them before and I think that's a color that tends not to be on an Anna's. Take all that FWIW, though. I wouldn't bet the house on any ID.

I am not familiar with those two species - out of their range this far north as far as I know. This species is common in this nesting corridor and what I call a juvenile female Ruby-throated here on Lake Ontario. The photo was taken last August at a butterfly bush.
