    Default Black Skimmer

I went out today with my wife to take some photos. It's been raining a lot down here in Mexico, so we did not have the best light. We found a group of skimmers and as we tried to approach them some of them flew away and on their way back started skimming. Here is one of the photos I took.

    Lorant:

Classic skimmer pose, like the angle in the frame, dangling feet and good view of both wings.

Did you have to augment the catch light? (because the light was so soft)

    Cheers

Thanks, Randy. I have only cropped the image and added contrast and sharpness, did not modify it otherwise. Light was super soft with the overcast sky for sure. This is my first good skimming skimmer image though:). I don't often see these guys for some reason.

    Lorant:

Great that you got the catchlight, the eyes tend to be inky black at times, even with decent light.

Beautiful image, Lorant. Simple, clean, with a great pose. Glad you got the little spray of water coming up from his beak, nice detail.

Great timing/pose, I am surprised it is so sharp at 1/640 - excellent exposure.

These guys are so fun to watch, glad some of them performed despite flying off on your approach. I like the skimming pose and soft light. Balanced comp.
