Theme: Moose Cow

A decidedly inelegant name for this lovely animal IMO. The hour I was leaving Algonquin Provincial Park two cows were alongside the corridor highway for about 1/2 hour. Cropped to a 4 by 5 ratio and added poster edges at reduced opacity.

I like the effect of the face that you achieved with poster edges. You must have been close, the face is super sharp. These animals can be mean but this cows ears are up, so it didn't feel threatened.

Great composition and depth of field. Poster edges is very effective on the moose, and the effect provides a nice textural contrast with the background. The combination of the pose you caught and the light tones of its face make it look like the moose is walking right out of the frame toward us. Very well done all the way around.

We were probably within 30 feet. This was the 100-400 @400. I have only been up three times and they have all seemed pretty docile. Guess that is not always the case.
Dennis thanks for your comment. I have started using Digital Photo Professional ( Canon Software ) for the initial conversion to a TIFF, then into CS6. I have been especially pleased with the colours I have been getting. They seem much more accurate than Photoshop IMO.

Awesome look this cow is giving you, plus she is very sharp. Poster edges worked nicely on the fur, adding definition in a subtle way. And the nose looks like velvet, like a horse. I almost feel I can reach out and touch it. I need to look at DPP again. Artie uses it exclusively. You might consider removing the orange to the right of the ear. Or just reduce the intensity as it seems a bit bright among all that green.

Jackie, your application of poster edge nicely accentuates the coarse hair of the moose without over doing it. I particularly like the eye. Getting a good eye with a dark furred animal can be difficult.

Thanks Gary, I did a quick mask on the eyes, sharpened and instead of lightening I actually darkened the eyes using soft light blend mode.
